Our Primary section is specially-prepared environment that lays solid foundations for children from 5+ to 10+. All our pupils follow an adapted form of the Montessori method of child education which is regarded throughout the world as unsurpassed in its ability to help younger children achieve their full potential.
The teaching approach is child-centred. Our curriculum and assessment procedures take into account the Standard of National Primary Framework. The Elementary School curriculum, in addition to the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, includes , information technology, Religious Studies, Creative art, Phoenix and Diction, French and Nigerian cultural studies (NCS).
These provide formative activities for the pupils within a carefully planned and structured environment in which the child can learn and grow at his/her own pace, along the lines of natural development, with the teacher acting as a guide and a facilitator.
Homework
Homework is set regularly and in all subjects, with increasing degree of dedication as students get older. We monitor the homework being set to maintain high standards.
We also insist on students recording their homework in their personal planners and ask parents to check these every day. We encourage parents to support their child by providing a quiet space and time for homework, taking an interest in the set tasks and providing praise and encouragement.
